I am a writer, editor, and English teacher based in northern New Jersey.
My recent writing tends to focus on the impact of different technologies and digital media on human relationships; maximalism and excess in American literature; the overlap between aesthetics and politics; and the connection between writing and thought. My past scholarship was concentrated on 20th-century American literature, particularly the works of Ralph Ellison (especially his unfinished, posthumously published second novel) and James Baldwin, and the philosophical project of Jacques Derrida; other research interests include the history and contested purpose of US public education; critical theory; psychoanalysis and ethics; and the writings of Henry David Thoreau.
My Philosophy of Teaching statement lives [here]. You can view my partial CV [here]; samples of my academic work are available on my Academia.edu profile. I am in the process of assembling a portfolio of my teaching work, which you can find [here] once it launches.
Otherwise, I try really hard to be neither active nor visible on social media, but there’s a chance you might find me on the neoliberal dystopia of LinkedIn or the burned-out elephant graveyard formerly known as Twitter.
